Frequently asked questions

What does the meta tags analyzer check?

The title tag, meta description, canonical URL, robots meta tag and X-Robots-Tag header (noindex), HTTP status, H1 and heading outline, viewport, language, image alt attributes, Open Graph and Twitter tags, hreflang alternates and whether JSON-LD structured data is present.

How do I check if a page is noindex?

Run the page through the analyzer and look at 'Indexable'. It checks the robots and googlebot meta tags and the X-Robots-Tag HTTP header, which is easy to miss because it isn't in the HTML.

How many H1 tags should a page have?

One clear H1 that describes the page is the safest pattern. Google can handle more, but multiple or missing H1s usually signal an unclear page structure.

What does it mean if the canonical points to a different URL?

The page is telling Google to index the other URL instead. That's correct for duplicates, but a common accident on pages you want to rank.

Which meta tags matter for SEO?

The title tag and meta description affect how your result looks and gets clicked. Canonical and robots tags control what gets indexed. Meta keywords are ignored by Google.

Why do some values differ from what I see in the browser?

The analyzer reads the HTML the server returns. If tags are added or changed by JavaScript after load, Google may still pick them up when it renders the page, but they won't show here.
