Keyword density checker

Paste your copy or enter a URL to see the most-used one, two and three-word phrases, and how often your target keyword appears. Spot both missing keywords and over-repetition.

How to use keyword density well

Keyword density is a diagnostic, not a goal. Use it to answer two questions:

What matters more than density

Finding the right keyword in the first place

The best target is usually a query you already get impressions for. Search Console keyword research shows which ones, and the title and meta length checker helps you put the keyword where it counts.

Frequently asked questions

How is keyword density calculated?

Density = (times the phrase appears × number of words in the phrase) ÷ total words × 100. A 2-word phrase used 5 times in a 500-word article has a density of 2%.

What is the ideal keyword density?

There isn't one. Google has said there's no target density, and stuffing a keyword can hurt. Use the main phrase naturally (in the title, an early heading and the introduction) and cover the topic thoroughly with related terms.

Is keyword density a ranking factor?

Not as a number. Search engines look at relevance and how well a page covers a topic. Density is useful as a sanity check: to spot a missing keyword, or one repeated so often the text reads badly.

What does the URL mode analyze?

The page title and main content. Navigation, headers, footers, forms and scripts are removed first, so the counts reflect the copy a reader actually sees.

Why are words like 'the' and 'and' missing?

Phrases that start or end with common stop words are skipped so the lists show meaningful terms. They're still counted in the total word count.
